AcuMed Clinic · Sarasota, FL
Conservative, drug-free care for SI joint pain, low back, and pelvic-region symptoms.
Sacroiliac pain, often called SI joint pain, is commonly felt near one side of the low back, pelvis, buttock, or hip region. It may feel sharp, aching, unstable, stiff, or difficult to pinpoint. Some patients notice pain when standing from a chair, climbing stairs, rolling in bed, walking, getting in and out of the car, or standing on one leg. At AcuMed Clinic - Pain & Chronic Care in Sarasota, FL, we evaluate sacroiliac pain as part of the larger low back, pelvis, hip, and gait system. The sacroiliac joints connect the spine to the pelvis and help transfer force between the upper body and legs. Our care is evidence-informed, non-surgical, and drug-free.

The sacroiliac joints sit where the sacrum meets the pelvic bones. These joints are built for stability more than large movement, but they still need to transfer load efficiently between the spine, pelvis, hips, and legs. When the SI region becomes irritated, surrounding muscles may guard. The low back, hips, glutes, and hamstrings may compensate.
Sacroiliac pain may be influenced by hip mobility, lumbar spine movement, gluteal muscle function, pelvic stability, gait mechanics, muscle guarding, trigger point patterns, prior injury or surgery, and stress and pain sensitivity. Care should consider the full movement chain rather than treating the SI joint in isolation.
Medical Acupuncture may be used as part of a conservative care plan for sacroiliac pain. Treatment is individualized based on the location of symptoms, related low back or hip pain, muscle guarding, and functional goals. For sacroiliac pain, acupuncture may help support pain modulation, muscle relaxation, nervous system regulation, circulation, reduced guarding around the low back, pelvis, and hips, improved comfort with movement, and stress and sleep support.
Acupuncture does not 'realign' the pelvis or guarantee correction of SI joint mechanics. For appropriate patients, it may help reduce symptom burden and support participation in movement and daily activity.
