AcuMed Clinic · Sarasota, FL
Conservative, drug-free care for shoulder inflammation, overhead pain, and bursa irritation.
Shoulder bursitis can make the shoulder feel painful, tender, inflamed, and difficult to use. Reaching overhead, lying on the affected side, lifting groceries, putting on a shirt, swimming, golfing, playing pickleball, or reaching into a cabinet may trigger discomfort when the shoulder bursa is irritated. At AcuMed Clinic - Pain & Chronic Care in Sarasota, FL, we approach shoulder bursitis as part of the broader shoulder movement system. A bursa is a small fluid-filled cushion that helps reduce friction between tissues. When the shoulder bursa becomes irritated, symptoms may overlap with rotator cuff pain, shoulder tendinitis, impingement mechanics, neck tension, and upper back compensation.

The shoulder bursa helps tissues glide smoothly as the arm moves. When the bursa becomes irritated, overhead movement can compress the sensitive area and trigger pain. This may cause the body to guard, changing how the shoulder blade, neck, and upper back move. Over time, this protective pattern can create additional tension and stiffness.
A conservative care plan may consider shoulder mechanics, rotator cuff irritation, shoulder blade movement, neck and upper back tension, trigger point patterns, activity load, sleep position, and pain sensitivity. At AcuMed, care is tailored to your symptoms and daily goals rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Medical Acupuncture may be used as part of a conservative care plan for shoulder bursitis-related pain and guarding. Treatment is individualized based on symptom location, movement limitations, inflammation-related sensitivity, sleep disruption, and related neck or upper back tension. For shoulder bursitis, acupuncture may help support pain modulation, nervous system regulation, muscle relaxation, circulation, reduced protective guarding, improved comfort with shoulder movement, and sleep support when night pain is present.
Acupuncture does not remove the bursa or guarantee elimination of inflammation. For appropriate patients, it may help reduce symptom burden and support comfort as part of a broader plan.
