Insurance Coverage
Medicare now covers acupuncture for chronic low back pain. AcuMed Clinic is enrolling Medicare patients now, with appointments available starting October 2026.

Dr. Katrina “Kitt” Chojnicki-Hill, DAOM, AP, Dipl. OM, brings more than seven years of clinical experience serving Medicare beneficiaries in the Sarasota and Southwest Florida region. AcuMed Clinic will be one of the few Medicare-credentialed acupuncture providers in Southwest Florida — purpose-built for exactly this patient population.
If you have been living with chronic low back pain and are on Original Medicare, your coverage may already include the care you need. The information below will help you understand what Medicare covers, whether you qualify, and how to book.
Coverage Details
Original Medicare (Part B) covers acupuncture specifically for chronic low back pain. Here is what you need to know:
Diagnosis requirement
Your low back pain must have lasted at least 12 consecutive weeks.
Visit allowance
Medicare covers up to 8 acupuncture visits in the first 90 days. If you are improving, up to 12 additional visits may be covered within the same year — a total of 20 visits annually.
No referral required
As an Acupuncture Physician (AP), Dr. Kitt is a licensed physician in Florida. You can schedule directly without a referral from your primary care provider.
Original Medicare only
This benefit applies to Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Medicare Advantage coverage varies by plan — call your plan directly to confirm your acupuncture benefit before booking.
What to bring
Your Medicare card, a photo ID, and any imaging or records related to your back condition.
Your First Visit
Your first visit is a full clinical appointment. Dr. Kitt will review your history, identify the patterns driving your pain, and begin treatment — all in one session. Care at AcuMed is drug-free and non-surgical, drawing on acupuncture, therapeutic modalities, and a whole-person approach to chronic pain. You will leave with a clear picture of your treatment plan and realistic expectations for what acupuncture can do for you.

“Many of my Medicare patients come to me after being told there is nothing more that can be done. I consider that my specialty.”
— Dr. Katrina “Kitt” Chojnicki-Hill, DAOM, AP, Dipl. OM
