AcuMed Clinic will be one of the few Medicare-credentialed acupuncture providers in Southwest Florida — purpose-built for exactly this patient population.

Do You Qualify for Medicare-Covered Acupuncture?
Original Medicare (Part B) covers acupuncture specifically for chronic low back pain. Here is what you need to know:
Diagnosis requirement
Your low back pain must have lasted at least 12 consecutive weeks.
Visit allowance
Medicare covers up to 8 acupuncture visits in the first 90 days. If you are improving, up to 12 additional visits may be covered within the same year — a total of 20 visits annually.
No referral required
As an Acupuncture Physician (AP), Dr. Kitt is a licensed physician in Florida. You can schedule directly without a referral from your primary care provider.
Original Medicare only
This benefit applies to Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Medicare Advantage coverage varies by plan — call your plan directly to confirm your acupuncture benefit before booking.

Your Medicare card, a photo ID, and any imaging or records related to your back condition.

Your first visit is a full clinical appointment. Dr. Kitt will review your history, identify the patterns driving your pain, and begin treatment — all in one session. You will leave with a clear picture of your treatment plan and realistic expectations for what acupuncture can do for you.

Does Medicare cover all types of acupuncture?
No. Original Medicare currently covers acupuncture only for chronic low back pain. Coverage for other conditions — such as osteoarthritis, headaches, or neck pain — is not included under the current benefit.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Kitt?
No referral is required. Dr. Kitt is an Acupuncture Physician (AP), which is a licensed physician designation in the state of Florida. You can book directly.
What if I have Medicare Advantage instead of Original Medicare?
Medicare Advantage plans set their own acupuncture benefits, and coverage varies widely. Contact your plan's member services line to ask whether acupuncture for chronic low back pain is covered and whether AcuMed Clinic is in your network. We also accept BCBS, UHC, and VA Community Care.
Can I book now even though the clinic is not open yet?
