AHM Properties
Wolfberry leaf (Gou Qi Ye) comes from the same plant as goji berries but carries a more cooling quality and a stronger action on clearing heat. It nourishes Liver and Kidney Yin, relieves heat from the Liver and eyes, and is commonly used in spring cooking when the young, tender leaves are at their best. In Cantonese culinary tradition it is a familiar vegetable, appearing regularly in congee and simple stir-fries.
Wolfberry leaf contains betaine, zeaxanthin, and glycine betaine with documented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties consistent with the Lycium plant's AHM role in nourishing Liver and Kidney Yin and clearing deficiency Heat.
Contraindications
Avoid in Cold patterns or Yang deficiency. More cooling than the berry.
