AHM Properties

Turmeric activates Blood circulation, breaks up Blood stasis, moves Qi, alleviates pain, and clears damp-heat. In AHM, it functions primarily as a Blood mover and Qi regulator, applied to stagnation patterns involving pain, swelling, or fixed masses. Its well-recognized anti-inflammatory properties correspond directly to its ability to resolve damp-heat and Blood stasis. Prepared as golden milk with black pepper and a healthy fat, it becomes the most effective form for daily use.

Curcumin, turmeric's primary active compound, is the most extensively researched natural anti-inflammatory agent, with meta-analyses demonstrating efficacy comparable to NSAIDs for osteoarthritis pain; it inhibits COX-2, NF-kB, and multiple additional inflammatory pathways.

Contraindications

Avoid large amounts in pregnancy or with blood-thinning medications. Avoid in bleeding disorders. High heat reduces curcumin.
