AHM Properties
Pine nut, called Song Zi in AHM, is a mild Yin and Blood tonic that also brings needed moisture to both the Lung and the intestines. It is a particularly good match for older or deficient patients presenting with dry cough, dry skin, and constipation from intestinal dryness. Because its nature leans slightly warm rather than cold, it can moisten tissues without introducing a cold imbalance. Classical texts have long recognized pine nut as a longevity-supporting food.
Pine nuts contain pinolenic acid, a unique polyunsaturated fatty acid that reduces inflammatory cytokine production, complementing their AHM role in moistening the Lungs and Intestines and nourishing Liver Blood.
Contraindications
Avoid excess in phlegm-damp or digestive weakness. Rich and oily — may cause loose stools in excess.
