AHM Properties
Oats strengthen Spleen and Stomach Qi, settle the spirit, and provide steady, lasting energy, with a strong affinity for the Heart where they reinforce cardiac muscle and support neurological and reproductive vitality. Their beta-glucan content helps clear damp-heat from the blood vessels, supporting cardiovascular health and blood sugar balance, and they have been used in AHM for dysentery, diabetes, hepatitis, nervous and sexual debility, indigestion, and abdominal bloating. They also support brain and nerve development in youth.
Oats are exceptionally rich in manganese (over 60% of the daily value), with meaningful amounts of phosphorus and magnesium (approximately 13% DV each), copper, zinc, and B vitamins including thiamin and pantothenic acid. Their beta-glucan fiber helps reduce LDL cholesterol, slow-digesting fibers promote blood sugar stability, and high fiber content supports gut health and regular bowel movements.
Contraindications
Use with caution or avoid in celiac disease, severe gluten sensitivity, or acute gastrointestinal tract narrowing and motility disorders. Oats contain avenin, a gluten-like protein. Avoid excess in damp constitutions — oats are mildly damp-forming.
