AHM Properties

Mussels are one of the most well-rounded tonic foods in AHM, replenishing Yin, Blood, and Jing while also giving a gentle lift to Yang — a rare combination that makes them useful for both Yin and Yang deficiency at the same time. They are especially helpful when deficiency shows up as ringing in the ears, dizziness, night sweats, or a weak and achy lower back. Dried mussels carry an even more concentrated tonic effect than fresh.

Mussels provide omega-3 fatty acids, glycosaminoglycans, and unique marine lipids with anti-inflammatory activity; green-lipped mussel in particular has specific clinical evidence for reducing joint pain and stiffness in both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Contraindications

Avoid in exterior conditions with fever. Must be very fresh. Shellfish allergies.
