AHM Properties
Mango nourishes Stomach Yin, supports fluid production, eases thirst and nausea, and benefits Lung Yin for dry cough. That said, it is among the most damp-generating of the tropical fruits in AHM and is best avoided altogether in patients with damp constitutions, phlegm-related patterns, or certain skin conditions. For those with appropriate constitutions, its sour-sweet flavor can support Spleen-Stomach function when eaten in reasonable amounts.
Mango contains mangiferin, a C-glucosylxanthone with well-documented anti-inflammatory properties that inhibit multiple inflammatory pathways, reinforcing its AHM role in tonifying Qi, supporting digestion, and clearing Heat.
Contraindications
Highly damp-forming — avoid in damp, phlegm, or skin conditions with damp-heat. Avoid excess.
