AHM Properties
Lychee is a warming fruit that nourishes Heart and Spleen Qi, builds Blood, settles the spirit, and helps relieve pain. In AHM it warms the middle burner, making it appropriate for cold-pattern stomach pain and hiccups. Its Blood-building properties make it helpful for anemia and pallor. Because of its warming nature, it is best consumed in moderation and balanced alongside cooling fruits like pear.
Lychee polyphenols, particularly oligonol, have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects and improved microcirculation in clinical research, consistent with its AHM role in tonifying Blood and supporting Heart function.
Contraindications
Warm and potentially heating — avoid excess, which can cause 'lychee heat' (excessive warmth, mouth sores, nosebleeds). Avoid in heat patterns.
