AHM Properties
Leek (Jiu Cai) warms Kidney Yang, breaks up cold stagnation in the middle burner, moves Blood, and has long been considered an aphrodisiac food in AHM. As a springtime Yang food that pushes up from the earth in early spring, it carries rising Yang energy. Its warming, pungent quality disperses cold-type abdominal pain and supports Yang in patterns marked by cold deficiency.
Leeks contain allicin and quercetin with anti-inflammatory properties similar to other allium vegetables, supporting their AHM role as a warming, tonifying food that moves Qi and dispels cold.
Contraindications
Avoid in heat patterns, eye conditions with heat, or Yin deficiency with heat. Best eaten in spring and autumn.
