AHM Properties

Banana reduces heat, loosens the intestines, and helps relieve constipation rooted in heat or Yin deficiency. It has a settling effect on the spirit and supports Lung Yin when there is dry coughing. That said, its cold and damp-generating nature makes it a poor fit for cold or damp patterns — a food that calls for careful consideration in many constitutions.

Bananas contain dopamine and catechins that contribute to antioxidant and mild anti-inflammatory activity, complementing their AHM function of nourishing Yin and moistening dryness.

Contraindications

Avoid in Cold patterns, Spleen Yang deficiency, diarrhoea, or chronic cough from cold. Very damp-forming.
