AHM Properties

Asparagus nourishes Kidney Yin and Qi, encourages urination, removes toxins, and alleviates irritation from summer heat, supporting recovery and stabilizing digestion. It has been celebrated as a longevity food in classical AHM texts for supporting a clear complexion and vision, and addresses hypertension and arteriosclerosis. It can mildly stimulate prolactin and supports prebiotic gut health through its high fiber and water content.

Asparagus is rich in vitamin K (over 55% of the daily value) and folate (approximately 34% DV), with meaningful vitamin A (18% DV) and vitamin C (12% DV) alongside potassium. It is very low in calories, sodium, and fat, high in water and dietary fiber to aid digestion, and acts as a prebiotic to support gut health.

Contraindications

Do not use in cases of kidney inflammation, as excessive consumption can irritate the kidneys. Avoid in cold-type diarrhea or lung congestion with predominant chills.

Clinically authored and reviewed by Dr. Katrina Chojnicki-Hill, DAOM, AP, Dipl. OM. Cross-referenced against American Dragon Herbs and classical AHM sources. For educational purposes only — consult a qualified AHM practitioner for personalised advice.
